It’s that Atavistian time of the month and, boy, is “Anatomy of a Murder” a dark one. Brilliant, but bleak.

John Rosengren is the reporter behind this gripping story of how a vigilante murder divided a town. The story couldn’t be in better hands than John’s.

He is the author of twelve books including The Greatest Summer in Baseball History, Hammerin’ Hank, George Almighty and the Say Hey Kid, as well as the novel A Clean Heart.

John’s journalism has appeared in The Atlantic, GQ, Men’s Journal, Sports Illustrated, the Washington Post Magazine, and countless others. His about section of his website is humbling to read, to put it mildly.

In this episode, we talk about the need to decompress after tough conversations, note taking vs. recorders, dealing with brutal cuts during revisions, and what he needs to start the day off right.

The podcast starts with my conversation with lead editor Jonah Ogles and tracks his side of the table, as well a short riff on how it’s damn near impossible to afford to be a journalist these days.
