Rachel Monroe (@rachmonroe) is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic and myriad other places.

Her latest piece for The New Yorker is about ransomware and hacker negotiators. She wrote a piece about #vanlife for The New Yorker back in 2017 that garnered all kinds of buzz.

She’s also the author of Savage Appetites: True Stories of Women, Crime, and Ambition.

She does it all from a little town of Marfa in western Texas, so for all of those goobers out there who think you can’t have a thriving freelance hustle, people like Rachel and Eva Holland buck that trend.

I was familiar with Rachel’s work, but it wasn’t until Jordan Michael Smith gave her props for his Atavist story “The Snitch” that I knew I had to talk to her.
