Damon Brown is an author, entrepreneur, and coach and his latest book is The Complete Bring Your Worth Collection. It is definitive. It is his capstone.

Much of Damon’s work has been centered on writing, but the past few years he’s started a fine YouTube show that showcases his particular expertise and how he can get you where you want to go.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • How he grew is YouTube channel from 0 to 18K
  • The BYW Collection as capstone
  • And how obscurity is your friend … to a point

There’s lots of other stuff to chew on as well, naturally. I also share a parting shot about the needless and senseless worry over platform building and where we really need to put our focus. It’s kinda like this blog I wrote … but with more swears.

You’re in for a treat because Damon Brown is back on the show!

Damon’s laundry list of accolades and books and projects is too long to type. Too long, CNFers. But! He’s awfully proud (and he should be!) of his YouTube show Bring Your Worth. He’s got 300 episodes and counting.

Damon’s also the author of Career Remix: Get the Gig You Want with the Skills You’ve Got.

“From the rooter to the tooter,” writes Damon Brown in his new book Career Remix: Get the Gig You Want with the Skills You’ve Got (Sterling).

He writes that his southern African American relatives would often get the scraps of the pig, and they’d have to get creative and use everything. I’ll let you connect the dots. What Damon means is, “There is nothing wasted.”

And so we’ve come to his new book about parlaying the skills you’ve got into any gig you want.

This is Damon’s third trip back to the podcast and he always brings it. He’s the author of more than twenty books including Bring Your Worth and The Bite-Sized Entrepreneur.

He’s got a great YouTube show at youtube.com/browndamon. You can find him on Twitter @browndamon and LinkedIn.

Damon Brown returns!

Had a great time talking about his new book Build from Now: Know Your Power, See Your Abundance and Change the World.

Damon’s all over the place. He’s talkin’ TED, he’s coaching, he’s almost written thirty books, he’s the primary caretaker of his two young boys, all of that and he’s one of the most generous people I’ve ever met. I think you’ll agree.

Sit Under the Tallest Tree

In a recent conversation I had with the writer, coach, and entrepreneur Damon Brown, we talked about how the muse doesn’t exist. That there’s no substitute for putting the butt in the chair and doing the work.

This is true.

But the muse can exist, but we mustn’t wait for it.

If it shows at all, it’ll be because we were at the right place at the right time doing the work, like a bolt of lightning.

In a sense, we need to anticipate the storm and plant our work station under the tallest tree so that, should the muse strike from the clouds (or does lightning strike up from the ground?), we are there. We are always there because the work is the reward. We write to find the muse. We don’t wait for the muse in order to write.

Also, if there’s a storm, please don’t sit under the tallest tree. This is merely a metaphor.

Audio Magazine Issue No. 1: Isolation

By Brendan O’Meara

Become a Patron!

It’s been a long time coming, but, at long last, here is the inaugural Creative Nonfiction Podcast Audio Magazine!

The essays take you to edges of isolation and what that means to these five brilliant contributors.

I’m very proud of this, and I’m thrilled to keep improving the product and developing it.

As you know, this is the show where I usually speak to badass writers about the art and craft of telling true stories. So it’s my esteemed pleasure to bring you true stories on the feed.

Now, this inaugural issue will forever be free for all, but subsequent issues will only be available for members in the Patreon community. The first tier grants you exclusive access to the 2021 audio mag, which I hope will publish around June/July. The new theme and submission guidelines are at the end of this audio mag. Very exciting!

You’ll want to keep the conversation going on social media @CNFPod and let me know what you think of this exciting enterprise.

Episode 189: Damon Brown on ‘Bring Your Worth’ and the Secret Power of Cocktail Napkins

By Brendan O’Meara

You ready for a treat, CNFers? I’ve got Damon Brown for you this Valentine’s Day. Awwwww.

Damon has written several books, most self-published, but some not. His book Bring Your Worth is what prompted this conversation.

He’s in that vein of Jeff Goins, Austin Kleon and Chase Jarvis about how to get inspired to do your best work.

We met at HippoCamp 2019 and got to talking about a lot of the themes that you’ve come to love from this little podcast. Jeanette Hurt was also with us at the bar. Actually, I was with them since they’ve been creative partners for years and they co-talked a talk about earning money while you sleep. Passive Writer is the book they co-authored about it. Good stuff.

They were really sweet and attended my train wreck of a presentation. More on that another time.

Make sure you sign up for Damon’s newsletter, after mine 😉 and follow him on Twitter @browndamon.

That it? I think so.
