Is there anything better than sticky notes? You can move them around. Use different colors. The glue tends to, um, stick around after multiple uses.
I have almost no wall space in my studio. It’s covered in foam and demotivating posters, like the one you see above. [Ambition: The journey of a thousand miles sometimes ends very, very badly.] The glue doesn’t like glass that much.
It helps me to see things at helicopter’s view. Color coding helps. I can see the glut of things from afar.
Above, the far left, those are books labeled as “To Read” for the podcast. The middle “Currently Reading,” and the Green is “Read/Ready to Pod.” There’s no real significance to the colors, just that they’re different. It also serves as a reminder of books I need to read, or books I’ve chosen to read. I get in the neighborhood of 30-40 book pitches a month, give or take. So I’m saying “no” to a LOT of titles. I’m also saying “yes” to more than I can take on, which is how I tend to fall behind.
I have physical books, NetGalley books sent to my (gag) Kindle, and I have PDFs saved on my 2015 iPad, so it’s easy to lose track of the ones I’m desperate to read… And I do read the books cover to cover.
In any case, I share that little image as a BTS look into what’s helping me keep track of the books coming in for the podcast. I also use a paper desk calendar I keep under my keyboard. Again, the helicopter view lets me see the big picture and plan. I’m such a naturally disorganized person that I need to employ these safeguards.
